Work Package 1: Generation and Demand Scenarios
This work package involves a mix of scenario development and forecasting to determine a set of generation and demand futures and quantitative data for each for the next 40 years.
Work Package 2: Grid Planning Guidelines
This work package involves setting the planning guidelines that enable planning studies to be performed effectively, efficiently, consistently and to produce results that are fit for purpose. The guidelines will be based on national and international Good Electricity Industry Practice.
Work Package 3: Asset Reliability
This work package involves setting the asset information in terms of forecasting asset condition and existing asset make up, against customer reliability requirements and target reliabilities.
Work Package 4: HVAC Line and Substation Strategy
This work package involves determining the appropriate strategy for upgrading/building/decommissioning of high voltage ac transmission assets together with the appropriate transmission technology roadmap.
Work Package 5: HVDC Transmission Technology
This work package involves determining the strategic use of HVDC for enhancing transmission capacity over the 40 year outlook.
Work Package 6: Grid Communications, Control and Protection Technology
This work package involves determining the future use and development of protection and automation technology for economically enhancing grid capacity.
Work Package 7: Grid Planning Studies
This work package takes the outputs from work packages 1-5 to assess the transmission needs over the 40-year strategy period and determine transmission options.
Work Package 8: Engineering Feasibility and Costing
This work package involves assessing the engineering viability of the short listed transmission options from work package 7 and determines high level costs.
Work Package 9: Transmission Solution Integration
This work package involves reviewing the transmission options identified through work packages 7 and 8 to determine transmission solutions.
Work Package 10: High Level Environmental Impact Assessment
This work package involves a high level assessment of environmental influences on transmission options as an input into Work Packages 7, 8 and 9.
Work Package 11: High Level Property Impact Assessment
This work package involves a high-level assessment of property influences on transmission options as an input into Work Packages 7, 8 and 9.
Work Package 12: Economic Benefit Assessment
