North Auckland and Northland Grid Upgrade Project (NAAN project)

Overview

What we're doing

Concrete truck and trench with workers laying cables. Sky tower in background.

Transpower is carrying out a project to reinforce its transmission network through Auckland and into North Auckland by installing the following cables and transformer.  Please click on link to be taken to the appropriate project:

The new cable link will provide an alternate electricity supply route to North Auckland and Northland, which presently relies on just one high capacity line between Otahuhu and Henderson for most of its power needs. The new transformer will reinforce Transpower's supply from Penrose.

Why we're doing it

This is a long term solution providing sufficient capacity for the foreseeable future.
