Upper North Island Demand Side Initiatives
Overview
What we're doing
We have re-scoped the UNI Demand Side Initiatives (UNI DSI) Project to investigate whether reliable demand response can be delivered at economic cost. This re-scoped project builds on what we learnt during the tender process in 2011.
The re-scoped project will include:
- Testing a demand response management system for effective dispatch of demand response.
- Assessing whether the management system reduces barriers to entry for different types of demand response.
- Discovering the economic price points for different types of demand response
- Determining whether a sustainable demand response programme can be established.
Why we're doing it
Demand side initiatives have value as a contingency measure (i.e. providing capacity headroom) during the construction and commissioning of transmission assets, or as a non-transmission investment solution (e.g. investment in dynamic reactive support).
