We have decided to progress this project separately from the Lower North Island Transmission investigation. The two projects have very similar underlying capacity assumptions but need to progress to very different timeframes.

Currently preparing summer load forecasts for use in modelling. Preparing a need report that outlines voltage and thermal limits, maintenance and high impact low probability issues that need to be addressed.

A draft long list has been prepared that identifies ways for managing high voltages at the Te Kowhai grid exit point. High level economic assessment has confirmed small economic benefit, probably not sufficient to justify any capital expenditure.

Condition assessment report shows that conductor replacement is needed. Connected customers have confirmed that increased line capacity is not required.

A preliminary design to install a Special Protection Scheme (SPS) at Central Park Substation has been completed. The SPS will enable the two transformers T3 & T4 to be replaced. Commissioning a contingency plan to install a nation spare transformer should one of the existing transformers fail.
