Upper North Island Dynamic Reactive Support Investigation

Proposal submitted to the Electricity Commission on 20 May 2010. We are responding to request for further information.

Next milestone: Notice of intention expected on 5 July 2010.

Lower South Island Facilitating Renewables Project

 A public conference has been requested and agreed by the Electricity Commission. The conference will be held in Alexandra on 28 June 2010.

Next milestone: Public conference on 28 June 2010.

Lower South Island Reliability Project

Investment Proposal submitted to the Electricity Commission on 31 May 2010.

Next milestone: Respond to questions from the Electricity Commission.

Lower Waitaki Reliability Investigation Project

Decision has been made to delay the submission of a proposal to allow for refinement of property costs, updating of load forecasts and reviewing the value of lost load.

Next milestone: Seek Board approval to engage with the Commerce Commission.

Bunnythorpe-Haywards Thermal Upgrade Project

Project being incorporated into the Lower North Island Upgrade project.

Upper South Island Grid Upgrade Investigation Project

Transpower is reviewing its earlier investigation to reinforce the grid in the Upper South Island. Currently preparing summer load forecasts for use in modelling.

Next milestone: Draft need report for winter to be circulated to Upper South Island lines companies in June.

Te Kowhai Over Voltage

A draft long list has been prepared that identifies ways for managing high voltages at the Te Kowhai grid exit point. High level economic assessment has confirmed small economic benefit, probably not sufficient to justify any capital expenditure.

Next milestone: Completion of a status report to summarise analysis to date and options considered.

Waikato 110 kV Line Investigation

Twelve submissions were received by 11 June. The team is putting together a consultation feedback summary document and working on costs for the base case.

Next milestone: July 2010 – Establish list of credible options.

Opunake-Stratford conductor replacement

Condition assessment report shows that conductor replacement is needed. Connected customers have confirmed that increased line capacity is not required.

Next milestone: Decision on conductor options to be investigated. SSR process to begin in July.

Central Park transformer replacement and improving security

Met with Wellington Electricity to discuss available options. Agreement has been reached to replace the transformers and to install an SPS to facilitate the required outages.

Next milestone: August – Completion of SSR to design a Special Protection Scheme.

Lower North Island Transmission Study

Stakeholder forum held in Palmerston North on 27 May to introduce project and get feedback on their own development plans.

Next milestone: November – Completion of a need report.
