Transpower has identified a number of substations throughout the country where an outage of either the 110 kV or 220 kV bus will result in a much wider loss of electricity supply to the surrounding area.
This is a progressive programme of upgrading, the project reference is NATL-BUS_SEC-EHMT-01. The table below sets out the status of each substation:
| Substation bus | Status | Publication |
|---|---|---|
| Maungatapere | Committed | Grid Upgrade Plan 2008 Instalment 1 - Part IV: Maungatapere Bus Security Investment Proposal (pdf: 848kB) |
| Bombay | Proposed | Grid Upgrade Plan 2008 Instalment 3 - part VII: Bombay Bus Security Investment Proposal - Investment Proposal(pdf: 846kB) |
| Redclyffe 110 kV | Committed | Grid Upgrade Plan 2008 Instalment 2 - part VIII: Redclyffe Bus Security Investment Proposal (pdf: 1008kB) |
Transpower is progressively upgrading the bus security at the relevant substations to ensure a reliable electricity supply during a bus outage. Typically, this involves upgrading the protection and/or installing a bus coupler.
Tendering for this project (if any) will be made through either the GETS or Transpower website. Register at both these sites to be notified of any open tender release.
