Lower North Island Transmission Investigation
Overview
What we are doing
Transpower is carrying out an investigation into the need for greater transmission capacity across its lower North Island transmission network.
The Lower North Island has been highlighted as a location for increasing wind generation to be connected. While new generation could be connected to the system today, there may be constraints on the transmission network which would increasingly constrain new or existing generation from being transported to where it is needed.
Why we are doing it
The need for this project is driven by a number of factors, including condition assessment of existing lines and the possibility of greater generation in the region.
